He worked several different jobs before starting his own business. He immigrated from Mexico when he was 23 years old with his wife Angela. It was created by an amibitous man Salvador Gonzalez, ready to tackle entrepreneurship. Golden Valley Materials also added 3.5 acres of material supplies, owned and operated separately.Golden Valley Produce was established in 1984 and its original name was Gonzalez Produce. Since 2006, the Nursery has grown to 7 acres of plant production/sales area and boasts one of the largest nurseries open to the public in the area. Ken's daughter-in-law, Sarah, manages the nursery and is aided by Uncle Ivan and many other great staff members. After 16 successful years in the trade, Ken hung up the shovel and purchased Golden Valley Nursery. Ken moved to California in 1990 with his wife, Sheila, and son, Scott, to pursue a career in Landscape Construction. For three years they learned the ins and outs of landscape construction and maintenance. They called it B&C Lawn Care and Sprinkler. In order to put him and his wife through college, he started a landscape construction company with his good friend, Gary Crandall. Ken studied Construction Management at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Golden Valley Nursery was purchased by Ken Bice, the current owner, in 2006. At that time, there were also two other nurseries serving the area: Windy Hills Nursery, which closed in 2008, and M&M, which closed in 2015. In 2000, Truman and his brother, Willy, moved the nursery to the town of Tracy, Ca. This small family-run retail nursery started out in Tulare County, Ca. In 1978, Golden Valley Nursery was founded by Truman Bracket.
